The Geo-Pop Mosaic Blanket: A Super Easy & Trendy Striped Crochet Pattern

If you watched the beautiful and colorful baby blanket models in the video above, you were likely struck by the combination of simple, textured stitches and stunning, crisp color changes. This inspired me to create the Geo-Pop Mosaic Blanket—a pattern that is incredibly easy for beginners but delivers a high-impact, modern, and “trendy color” look.

This blanket uses a simple, two-row repeat that is easy to memorize and works up quickly. The texture is dense, soft, and perfect for keeping a little one cozy!

✨ Special Stitch: The Woven Pop Stitch (WPS)

This stitch is simply an alternating pattern of single crochet (SC) and double crochet (DC) stitches. By alternating the stitches in height, they “pop” off the fabric, creating a basket-weave like texture that is dense, warm, and beautiful for stripes.

The key is that the SCs are always worked into the DC stitches of the previous row, and the DCs are always worked into the SC stitches of the previous row.

🌈 The Geo-Pop Mosaic Blanket Pattern

Blanket Body

The blanket uses a repeating 2-Row Stitch Pattern combined with a 4-Row Color Sequence.

Foundation Chain: With Color A, Ch 140 (for the 38″ width).

Woven Pop Stitch (WPS) Rows

Row 1: (WPS Setup Row – SC/DC)

  1. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook.
  2. [Dc in the next ch, sc in the next ch].
  3. Rep from $$ $$ across the entire row. You should end with an sc in the last stitch. (Total 139 stitches).
  4. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: (WPS Reversal Row – DC/SC)

This row starts with the opposite stitch from the previous row’s ending stitch, creating the woven effect.

  1. Dc in the very first st (which was an SC in the previous row).
  2. [Sc in the next st (the previous row’s DC), dc in the next st (the previous row’s SC)].
  3. Rep from $$ $$ across the row. You should end with a dc in the last st.
  4. Ch 1, turn. (Do not fasten off Color A yet if carrying yarn).

Color Sequence

The entire blanket is created by repeating the WPS rows (Row 1 and Row 2) while following the color sequence below:

Group 1: Color A Stripe

  • Row 3 (Color A): Work a Row 1 repeat (SC/DC pattern).
  • Row 4 (Color A): Work a Row 2 repeat (DC/SC pattern).
    • CC to Color B on the last pull-through of the final stitch. Ch 1, turn.

Group 2: Color B Stripe

  • Row 5 (Color B): Work a Row 1 repeat (SC/DC pattern).
  • Row 6 (Color B): Work a Row 2 repeat (DC/SC pattern).
    • CC to Color C on the last pull-through of the final stitch. Ch 1, turn.

Group 3: Color C Stripe

  • Row 7 (Color C): Work a Row 1 repeat (SC/DC pattern).
  • Row 8 (Color C): Work a Row 2 repeat (DC/SC pattern).
    • CC to Color B on the last pull-through of the final stitch. Ch 1, turn.

Group 4: Color B Stripe (Again)

  • Row 9 (Color B): Work a Row 1 repeat (SC/DC pattern).
  • Row 10 (Color B): Work a Row 2 repeat (DC/SC pattern).
    • CC to Color A on the last pull-through of the final stitch. Ch 1, turn.

Main Pattern Repeat:

Repeat Groups 1 through 4 in order (A-B-C-B) until the blanket reaches your desired square length (approximately 38 inches), or until you have used almost all of your yarn. Ensure you end your last repeat after a Color A stripe (Row 4 or a subsequent Group 1 repeat), as this will be your final stripe before the border.

Border (The Clean Frame)

The border uses only single crochet to create a sharp, clean edge that frames the geometric colorwork beautifully.

Round 1: (Foundation Round)

  1. Attach Color A (if not already attached) and Ch 1.
  2. Work SC evenly around the entire blanket edge.
    • Top & Bottom Edges: Work 1 SC into the top of every stitch across.
    • Side Edges (into the row ends): Work 2 SC for every 2-row stripe (or 1 SC into the end of each row). Aim for an even distribution—do not pull or ripple the fabric.
  3. Corners: Work (sc, ch 2, sc) in each of the four corners (4 cc made) to ensure the blanket lies perfectly flat.
  4. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 2:

  1. Ch 1, sc in each sc around.
  2. Corners: Work (sc, ch 2, sc) into each ch-2 space from the previous round.
  3. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

Round 3:

  1. Rep Round 2.
  2. Fasten off. Weave in all loose ends securely with your tapestry needle.

Your Geo-Pop Mosaic Blanket is now finished! The dense Woven Pop Stitch and the modern color sequence make this a stunning heirloom piece.
